Heartworm Treatment and Ticks...

e

Thank you for coming back and checking on my progress.

My foster mom said I am having my Heartworm treatment next week. I don't know about this, it doesn't sound like a lot of fun. Please keep your dogs on Heartworm preventative so they don't have to get treated!

I finished my cycle on antibiotics which were for the microfleria with the Heartworm and I tested boarder line positive for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. I thought only humans could get that! My foster mom tells me I'll be as good as new in about a month.

But their is good news, I'm starting to come around and I'm more trusting, still a little apprehensive at times. I'm very wiggly!! My tail and behind never stop moving when I want to play, which is A LOT. I enjoy sunning myself on the back deck with the others here.

I'm eating very well. That sneaky foster mom decided to hide my medicine in some cottage cheese this week and today, my last of my medicine, was in plain yogurt. YUM!!! I love it!

Oh, and I tried raw chicken wings last week, couldn't get enough of those. They are so good!

Check out the rest of the dogs that need fur-ever homes too. Also IBR is listing dogs that are Urgent in shelters around the country. If you would like to sponsor a dog and their vetting please contact Lisa. Her number is listed on all the Petfinder Pages.

IBR doesn't turn away sick or injured dogs. When my foster mom received the call I was Heartworm Positive the shelter asked if I could still come into IBR without a hesitation she said yes.

If you would like to foster please fill out a foster home application and the foster homes coordinator will get in touch with you.

If your house is full IBR can always use donations either monitary* or for vetting and supplies. Our transport coordinator needs drivers for transports too. We have foster homes in 8 states. Can you believe it! I was shocked when my foster mom told me that! And dogs have been adopted all over the country too!

Thank you for checking in. Time for my morning nap in the sun.

XOXO,

Quick Update...

Here I am! I am giving my foster mom a run for her money on getting a picture of me.

She asked me how is a gorgeous girl -- model type girl like me going to get my picture out their if I'm camera shy!

I am still a bit skiddish around things I am unsure of. The neighbor was petting me today, but then he went back to working in his garage while my foster mom was talking to him, he turned around with a wooden spindle in his hand and I hit the floor shaking.

My foster mom keeps promising me nobody is ever going to hurt me again, but sometimes I'm still unsure.

She does promise me I'll get a lot of confidence from her others Pointer here, I'm not sure what that is, but I'll take it, it sounds good.
And once I trust someone I let them pet me, and I squeeze my tiny little Pointer behind in their lap.
This morning she woke up with my cold cute little paws on her back. After I went outside my foster dad let me back in the bedroom where my foster mom was sleeping. I decided today was as good as day as any to jump up on her bed. Once I settled and moved my cold paws off her back I curled up in a tiny little Pointer ball and was snoring in no time!

So that is my quick update.

Little More About Me...

My foster mom promises new pictures of me ASAP. She has a bunch to download.

Now that I've been here a while she has learned a lot about me. I know the basics, sit, stay, and to go outside, no accidents since I've been here. I know my name is Cricket Q. I am very cuddly and would prefer to be in someones lap.

I am a very sensitive girl, my feelings get hurt very easy. I don't like raised or very loud voices. I tend to cower and shake, they make me very nervous. I don't even like when the other dogs here get scolded, which isn't often, but that really scares me too.

Tonight when one was scolded I ran and hid, my foster mom couldn't find me, she finally found me in a room by myself shaking.

But I am also a very happy girl. I love to get attention. I like when my foster family pets me, it takes me a little while to warm up to strangers. I don't snarl or growl, but I do tend to stay in the background until I am sure they are OK. I met the neighbor 3x before I would let her pet me.

I am always play-bowing one of the dogs here, or even my foster mom for that matter. My tail never stops wagging. I am very playful. My foster mom said Cricket was the prefect name for me, I bounce and hop around her backyard.

I am crate trained, its not my favorite place to be, but I'm quite when I'm in my crate. At night since I proved I'm such a good girl, I have gotten into or chewed on anything here I sleep on the floor in her room. I like to cuddle with her Weim.

Last night I was having a nice dream (I was wagging my tail while sleeping) and I heard a dog bark on TV. I jumped up and barked at the TV, I even raised my fur. That will teach those dogs to interrupt my sleep!

So that is my update for now. I am feeling much better. I was taking my medicine when I first got here, I gave foster mom a run for her money. I don't like peanut butter, which she said was a first for her. So after that I didn't have to take my medicine anymore. Now I get yogurt, sardines and broth and...HEY! Wait a minute here! Do you think she is hiding my medicine in there??!! How sneaky of her!

Check back soon. I go for my heartworm treatment in a a couple weeks. I am also being treated for Rocky Mt. Spotted Fever. I thought only you humans could get that, but I have a very low positive, probably just exposure to it.

Happy Tail Wagging Dreams,

This and That

Just a quick update and pictures to follow soon...

My foster mom says I'm a very sweet girl. I know some commands, sit, stay, want to go outside? and Whoa. I like to give my foster mom hugs. I take treats very gently too. I don't care for my crate, but I will go in and not make a peep.

I'm very good with kids. I tried to curl up in the lap of the 11 yr old boy that lives here. I like my foster dad. He spent a long time today petting me.

Something VERY scary happen. My foster mom and dad wanted to see if I was gun - shy. I AM! HUNTERS NEED NOT APPLY! My foster mom does know some dogs can get over it, but she refuses to let me go to a hunting home.

My reaction from that test showed her a lot and it was not good. And, I am still shaking and that test was about 2 hrs ago.

But I do love other dogs, I'm having so much fun with them. I try to play bow and walk at the same time. I have been very friendly with everyone I have met, people of all ages, kids, and dogs. I'm not so sure about men with hats on, but I just shy away from them, but once they pet me I am OK.

My tail is always wagging too.

Check back soon for pictures...

Wiggly kisses,

Cricket Q.

Sad News !!

Today I went to the Dr. He pinched me with a needle! But that wasn't the worst part.
The worst part is I'm Heartworm positive.* My foster mom was very sad to hear that. Those darn pesky mosquitoes.

But I was told she promised she would take care of me and help me through my treatment. One of her dogs came to her Heartworm positive and she is doing great now!

I was very happy to hear that. She was also told I have a very mild case, Stage 1. So I'm going to have to take medicine for one month then have my treatment. But I'm told I'll be as good as new in no time! Many other dogs have come through IBR that have been HW+ and go onto make great pets and live a long, full, healthy, normal, happy life.

So check back for updates. I can't wait to get on the transport tomorrow!

Sincerely Yours,

Cricket Q. Foster-Dog

Rescued!

London, Paris, Milan, Hancock County, IL. You don't have to go abroad to see beautiful girls. Check out my picture and read a little about my day today.

While I was eating my morning kibble, I heard Anissa tell someone she got a call for the Black and White Pointer Girl. I'm a girl, I'm black and white, and also a Pointer, she must mean me! And she did mean me. I'm getting out of the shelter and into a foster home! My foster mom called and confirmed it this morning.

I'm very excited. I heard her say that I was going to be transported on Saturday. OK, sounds good, but what to pack on such short notice? Oh, forget packing, I'm going to leave my old life behind and start brand new!

I wonder what kind of toys she will have for me? Oh, and what about the other dogs? I wonder if they will like me. Do you think she will feed me good food? Oh, I will have so much to update you on next week. Make sure you check back too!

Before I forget I get a new name too! It's going to be Cricket. How fun is that???

Check back soon and check out all the other dogs too. So many need homes! I was marked Urgent and I've been saved. Hopefully the others marked Urgent will get new homes too!

Happy Excited Can't Wait to Get Into Foster Care Kisses,

Cricket Q
